A Stroll through Meran
Known as God’s garden, a spa town of distinction, recognised at least since the time of "Empress Sissi" as a favorite destination for high society - Meran has quickened the senses since time immemorial. Stefan Zweig felt "nature’s peace inscribed into this world".
Even if the tempo of the world has picked somewhat today, Meran’s particular charms still reveal themselves most pleasantly, as in earlier days, at walking speed:
along the spa promenade, the Tappeinerweg, in the old town: Belle Époque buildings and splendid façades give the town its character. But Meran is more than a mere monument to a great past: the Meran Musikwochen Festival and the Meran Wine Festival have deservedly earned an international reputation, and the Meran Thermal Baths set new, modern standards. In cafés, young people switch effortlessly between German and Italian; live bands play exuberant jazz in clubs; and the spa promenade is full of people late into the night.
