Climate: Palms and Alpine Meadows
Naturally, apples grow here in all their lush splendor: the Golden Delicious, South Tyrol‘s “show” apple, the juicy Ida Red ... Naturally, flourishing chestnut trees and grape vines reach for the sky, but cypresses , kiwi, and magnolias too.
That’s what makes our climate so special: you’ll find the "South" in South Tyrol here, as well as the mountains of Tyrol, palms, and alpine meadows ... both the nimble Mediterranean and a culture deeply rooted in its native soil.
Algund is in the sun’s path for the entire day - and can point to a number of sunny days that puts most other places in the shadow. In any event, we counted at least 300 last year.
No wonder our guests are in such good spirits. Meran, like any other region, shapes the character of the people who live here or spend their holidays.

Spring arrives already in March with blossoming shrubs and select trees, e.g., almond, cherry, peach, and pear. Though if you’d like to experience the major fruit blossoming time, you'd do better to come in the middle to the end of April. Still, you don’t need to be all that precise: since we have both early and late ripening apples, you’ll be welcomed by a sea of white blossoms whenever you come.
July and August belong to Activities. At this time of year you can go hiking as high as you like — and climbing ...! The Spronser Lakes in the Texel Group Nature Park are a singularly memorable experience (in a cardigan, at the height of summer too!) After such a tour, relieve your muscles by swimming a few leisurely laps in the outdoor pool, get a massage, or take a glass of red wine out on the terrace. If you’re patient enough you can watch the apples growing day-by-day ‘til their harvested, ripe yellow and red, in mid-August.
The beauty of the blaze of flaming autumn colour, pastels at first in September, then darker and more intense by the end of October, is unsurpassed. After mid-October "Törggelen" will be in full swing, where "Köstn" (roast chestnuts) and “Sußer” (young wine) are shared in the company of friends. People go "Törggelen" until the end of November, the longer evenings are an invitation to spend more time surrounded by good company.
Winteris a quiet time for nature and for many of our employees. In December, Meran offers a friendly, authentic Christmas market and intimate evenings spent at home in a warm and cosy "Stube" (parlour). The fact that temperatures rarely fall below - 6 °C in winter must certainly play its part ...
Whenever you choose to spend your holidays in South Tyrol — we look forward to seeing you!
