The climate in South Tyrol

South Tyrol has something to offer in every season. That is one of the things that makes South Tyrol so attractive. South Tyrol is always sunny, but also magically varied. For all of those who are coming for the first time and who do not yet know their favorite time of year to visit, we would like to offer some information to make deciding when to come easier.
South Tyrol in every season. Table of the Climate

Spring begins in March with the arrival of early blossoming bushes and particular flowers, for example, almond, cherry, peach, and pear trees start to blossom. If you want to experience the major blossom season then you should come from the middle to the end of April. There have been years when we could already see the sea of blossoms in the valley at the beginning of April, but usually this first high point of the year begins a bit later. But do not worry as there are early and later varieties of apples you will experience blossoming trees in all their glory whenever you come in April.

The summer months  July and August are amongst the most active. At this time of year one can go hiking as high as one wants and climbing...! A unique experience is to visit the Spronser lakes in the nature park Texelgruppe. There one needs a warm jacket even in summer! After such an excursion you can relax your muscles with a swim in the outdoor pool, a massage, or simply a glass of red wine on the terrace. If you are patient you can watch the apples growing day after day until mid August when they are harvested once they are yellow or red.

In autumn the colors of fire, first pastel in September and then intense darker shades by the end of October are astunning. After mid October "Törggelen", eating roasted chestnuts and drinking Sußer (very young wine) is a favorite way to spend time with friends. People go "törggelen" until the end of November, perhaps because of the longer evenings which one enjoys spending in good company. The harvest festival and the large Meraner grape festival are the high points of the season.

Winter is a quiet time for nature and for many of our employees. In December Meran offers an authentic Christmas market and intimate evenings at home in the cosy "Stube" or parlour. The fact that temperatures rarely drop below -6° no doubt contribute to the warm atmosphere in Meran in winter.

We are looking forward to seeing you whenever you decide to come!
