Whether provincial museum, private collection or exhibition, the topics to which all of them are dedicated are very varied. And they are all worth a visit.

Some of the most famous museums are close by: the Museum of Archaeology (featuring Ötzi, its most famous representative) in Bolzano or the Andreas Hofer Museum in San Leonardo in Val Passiria, dedicated to the Tyrolean freedom fighter and folk hero. Castle Tyrol is just a short hop away and so is Castle Scena, overlooking the entrance to Val Passiria.
An insider tip is the museum dedicated to Peter Mitterhofer, the inventor of the typewriter, in his native town of Parcines near Merano. The women’s museum in Merano is also well worth a visit. Here you can find the most complete collection of women’s clothes from 1820 onward.
